Fun Facts About Me
............................................
I was born in Germany and lived all over the U.S. before setting my sights on the Pacific Northwest, and I've set my roots on Mt Hood for the last 14 years.
............................................
I've had 13 ear surgeries, and I have a fake ear drum!
............................................
I spent years as a backpacking guide and wilderness therapist. That means I was being paid to live out of a backpack for 8 days a week. Yup, no showers either. My hair was Funkay!
This is actually where my herbal products business, and my intense passion for studying herbalism began.
............................................
My herbal products were sold in one of the US's largest outdoor goods retail store, and in natural health food stores across the country.
............................................
When I was 16, I rebuilt the engine of my 1971 VW Super Beetle all by my stubborn self.
............................................
When I was 20, I rebuilt a 1978 VW Westfalia from the ground up. Then, I spent 6 months driving it across the country waaaay before there was a # for Van life.

Wanna Know How Do I Know
All This Herb Stuff?
My official studies of plant medicine began back in the early 2000’s when I was going to school for Outdoor Leadership, and Environmental and Experiential Education. I got to study a lot about the native trees, shrubs, and plants in the Pacific Northwest, and learn about their historical use.
This sparked my interest even more to understand more about these plants and how and why they worked with the human body.
I invested in tons of books, and spent countless hours outside with the plants. Around 2005 or so, I invested in my first online course, Herbal Skincare for Business. It wasn’t the best class I ever took, but it set me on my path to starting my own herbal products business.
It also left me yearning for more. So, I randomly signed up for my first trip to the Breitenbush Herbal Conference, where I knew I had found my people, and finally figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. There were so many amazing treachers I learned from there, like Cascade Andersen Geller (still the most dear teacher of mine) Rosemary Gladstar, Kathi Kevile, Christopher Hobbs, Tim Blakely, Mindi Green, Jane Bothwell, Rosita Arvigo, all the cool older timers of the herbal industry.
I left that conference feeling so incredibly inspired and I signed myself up for the Elderberry School of Botanical Medicine where I learned a lot about the body, how the herbs work, identifying plants, harvesting at the peak of their medicinal potency, and how to make effective herbal remedies.
And yet again, I had to learn more. So, I signed myself up at the Portland School Of Traditional Western Herbalism, where I got to dive deep into the body systems, and more scientific aspects of herbalism and whole body healing. This was an amazing program as the best of the best in clinical and medical herbalism came in to teach. Through this program I got to learn with Jim McDonald, Paul Bergner, 7Song, Peter Holmes, Lydia Bartholow, Hannah Jordan, Chanchal Cabrera, Jillian Stansbury ND, Scott Kloos, Howie Brownstein, and so many more. This is where I got to learn how to truly help someone get to the root of their healing journey.
I’ve also been an ongoing student of Dr. Aviva Romm's Herbal Medicine For Women program. I’m about to dive deep back into that program, it’s so good!
As that all was happening, I continued my education through many herb conferences including the Traditional Roots Institute at the National College Of Naturopathic Medicine where I got to learn with David Winston, Eric Yarnell, Herbal Ed Smith, Dr. Glen Nagel, Dr. Aviva Romm, Steven Yeager, Donnie Yance, Dr. Tania Neubauer, Dr. Orna Izakson, Guido Mase, Mimi Hernandez, Bevin Clare, and so many more incredible healers and teachers.
Perhaps some of my biggest learning also came from running my own herbal apothecary, my herbal product line that I sold in health food and outdoor stores throughout the country, and the many people who came to me for help while I ran that shop. Experience is where the greatest learning comes from.
Whew, that’s a lot! I feel so incredibly blessed to have had the honor to learn from so many incredible, brilliant plant medicine people, and I’ll never stop learning. This is why I love interviewing other herbalists on my podcast, and I bring in so many fantastic herbal educators into my Apothecary Momma herbal mentorship.
